I own one and it is the best hook ever. I have used it on neonate copperheads to 6ft eastern diamondbacks. I think that it is a great investment.

I like my O'Shea hook a lot though I wish there were a longer one. It is a little short but really strong to flip stuff as well us hook snakes. The hand holds aren't very large either. It is a good hook but I wouldn't advice catching large venomous snakes with it.

I only use small hooks my largest hook is about 28" big hooks just get in the way and I find can cause more problems than not of coarse I mostly work with cobras and small vipers so no need for a huge hook when I do need a large tool I use my M-1 tongs like a hook I never had to actually use the clamps but I like knowing I have them

another problem I ran into with big hooks it while in the snake room when you hook a snake and back up and the back of the hook hits the wall and the snake falls off the hook.

Joe,
The O'Shea hook is very strong. I've used it to turn over large stones, to picking up juveniles. This hook is by far the most versatile tool I've seen. The only draw back of this hook, is the grips are glued on with the cheap glue that you find on the "pre-glued" envelopes. It would be better, if they used something more permanent, however, if you're not using the end grip extensively, the grip stays in place.
The hook is well worth the money they ask for.
Best of luck,
Matt

It is a strong and comfortable hook to use.
I just feel that the second hand grip tends to put my hand a little too close to the snake I am using the hook on - not a good plan with large Eastern Diamondbacks and Canebrakes that we have down in northern Florida.

I used the Oshea while capturing a nearly 6 foot edb with no problem. It is very strong. It just feels right in your hands.
