I was on a tour of the Mayan ruins of Tikal in Guatemala and near the end of the tour as we were walking back along the road I nearly stepped on a stick that moved. Clearly it was a snake that sort of froze where it lay at my feet. Not being too bright about snakes I opened up my camera and took a picture of it. The tour guide suggested that I not move too fast and it slithered off the road into the bush. He said it was a Fer-de-Lance but to my untrained eye the picture I have doesn't look like any of the pictures I have found on the web. It does have an interesting shaped head though.
Can you suggest how I can find out what type of snake it is? I do have digital photo with pretty good resolution.

You should go to the photos section of this website and upload a photo in the unidentified snake section at the bottom of the page. After the webmaster puts the photo up we can see it and indentify it.
