yellow ratsnake bite

Okay, this may seem lame, but I was bit twice on the wrist by a yellow ratsnake 2 days ago. After washing the bite my wrist has broke out into several wheals with a hard raised surface. And is still very itchy. I have been bit before but never had a reaction. Just curious if anyone else has had a disorder 2 days post bite.

Always a first time to have a reaction. You seem to be sensitive to Yellow Rat Snake saliva....try a topical cortisone for a few day. Beware of the next time...may be a significant event. Keep Benadryl & some Epinephrine around just in case.

If the itchyness is unbarable then an oral antihistamine would be prefrable. Bare in mind that wheals restricted to the site of infection are part of the immune response as well as slight irritation. If you bled after the bite there's the possiblity that one or two teeth are imbeded which can also cause wheals. You did the correct thing by washing, alot of people forget basic hygiene.

I had a reaction from a western coachwhip that darn near made me wonder if the thing was hot. swelling, itching, burning, redness, wheals, and pain for about 5 days...
garters and watersnakes both are very painful to me for some reason, but that whip, it was off the chain.

I was bitten on my thumb once by a very large, nasty tempered eastern hognose snake. ( Yes, they do bite, LOL ) There was swelling, itching, and a lot of pain that lasted for about a week. JohnZ
