I have a question about incubator's. I have never bred egg laying snakes, and there is a local store that sells small incubator's for birds will these work or is there a specific incubator for reptiles. thanx,

Shane: It really depends on how adjustable the temperature is. Most bird incubators get too hot for hatching reptile eggs, but if you can turn down the temperature real low, it might work. Best Regards JohnZ

You might also consider using one of the flat undercage reptile heaters. These can be placed under the plastic shoe box or aquarium you have the eggs in to produce heat. You can vary the heat that reaches the eggs by adding more hatching substrate to the cage, or by stacking towells between the heater and the cage. JohnZ

I've had success with eastern and western hognoses by putting them in soil in a plastic tub about 12" square and 5" deep that was covered with screen. I used a 60 watt bulb in a lamp. Not very scientific, but I was 14-15 and it worked 3 times. So I don't think you need to buy a professional reptile incubator if you can get the bird one to get the temps that your eggs need.
