I came up with some funny names to call some local snakes:
The black racer-False Mamba or North American Boomslang
the coachwhip-the American tiapan
water snakes(Nerodia)-Laymans cottonmouth
cottonmouth-flapjack."I got a big ole flapjack
copperhead-"a got a hook-tooth over here!!"
pigmy rattler-stump wasp
rat snakes-hen killer
canebrake-muck rattler

I know of some folks around Jasper County, SC who call Canebrake Rattlers "Clam Busters", and Cottonmouths "Black Snappers" or " Chunk Heads". JohnZ

I also know some folks around Fargo, GA who call Armadillos "Thunder Pigs" ! Figgure that one out ! JohnZ

We always called armadillos an opossum on a half shell
