I just bought a baby king snake. Any tips on caring for it ? I`m keeping it in a 12 inch long plastic box. Sand and peble as substrate, a hiding place and a bowl of water. the temperature is around 25 degrees celsius. The snake is about 12 inches long.
I would like to know what problems are most often encountered with them, how baby kings feed and what to do if they don`t. I once fed some one elses adult king snake about 5 dice snakes and it ate them in a rush. I hope this one will feed as well as that one. I plan on feeding it pinkies and not snakes thow. Thank you.

I have a baby California King and it is about the same size you describe. I have never had any trouble with feeding this animal. He is a voracious eater. Pinkies are great to start with. Mine snaps them up in a hurry. You shouldn't have any problems. They are an easy species to care for.

I would not recommend feeding the snake on that substrate. Either feed it outside the cage or change the substrate. I have always had success with plain old newspaper.
