WELL I will not get one then. I read on many forums about people who can handle them. there are even quite a few pictures in the personal galleries that show people tailing and holding.
You did not have to attack me, I was just asking your opinion.
Some of you guys are just mean.
What would be a good snake then.
Small constrictor or what.

I can't see the need for it. Appreciate the snakes for what they are but why toil with them? To prove you can do it? I'm sure you could handle a timber, but the snake also has something to prove. It could drop you like Phil's mom with numchucks. I see free-handling as arrogance and nothing more. The closest I've been to true free-handling is with corals, where I tail them and support them mid-body with my other hand. When this procedure is done it is only for a few seconds and the snakes remain calm. If I try to hook them mid-body they get squirmy. It's not even as if I am allowing them to crawl on me(which I probably could), I'm merely moving them in order to clean their cage with as little stress as possible.
If you still want to free-handle, find something rear fanged that isn't likely to put you in the hospital(barring allergic reaction), but still hot enough to hurt like hell. I'll bet you wouldn't do it again. If you want to do it with timbers, you better be as big as Phil, otherwise you are a goner. In some cases, bigger is better

i would say for the most part people shouldnt free handle any thing they arent willing to get bit by.
no matter how calm and docile your pet is, be it a cat, dog, hamster, lizard, or a snake. if it has teeth it will bite you at least once in the time you own it, and thats a fact.
ive recently acquired a false water cobra and i handle it with gloves, but i still expect to be bitten at least once because im still holding it with my hands. (although its pretty docile)
