I very seldom respond to anonymous posts.
As rough as the cat hunting may sound, bear in mind that feral cats are the most destructive animals in the world. They kill not just for food, but just to kill.

Greg is right, cats are very distructive. As I am typing this, one of my neighbors four cats is stalking my frog pond just to see what it can kill. After that he will go stake out my bird feeder. None of his cats wear collars, and I doubt if they have had any shots. If people knew their cats could get shot if they didnt' keep them inside, just maybee they would not let them roam.
At the Atlanta Zoo, we had a real bad problem with feral cats that lived in the sewers. They would come out at night and roam the zoo grounds. They carried feline lukemia, which was transferred to some of the lions and tigers.
I think making feral cats a non-game hunting animal would help the problem. JohnZ

I have got to agree on the feral cat issue. I had 2 generations in my yard from the neighbor. The grand mother I trapped and when I picked up the trap I nearly soiled my pants. This was no cat I've ever come accross. It was compltely wild and wanted to tear me apart. I would put htat cat against any dog. They would eat squirrels and crap in my garage where I restore cars. Wild cat crap smells much worse than dogs and you step on it cause they bury it about 1/2" deep. I don't want to kill them but after spending countless hours on the phone-w-animals/feline lover who promised the moon and delivered nothing it is open season. Trap, CO2 and snake food after freezing IMO

Sorry Guys...
I like cats and would not like to see them hunted. Yes, I agree there is a problem and ferel cats just kill for the fun of it but other ways to control the problem could be used. There are enough idiots that shoot around homes with children during Deer season. We don't need to give them target that hangs around houses unlike the Deer.
Nobody likes the rattlesnake round ups that some states allow. Why is shooting cats all that different. Keep in mind that mankind is the biggest destroyer of the natural world and that's a fact.

Al: I like well maintained house cats also. I admire their independent nature. I once even owned one, untill it took a dump in a box of books I had on the floor! Anybody want to buy a slightly soiled copy of Snakes and Snake Hunting? LOL. I just dont like the half wild ones some people keep outside of the leash laws. I have been tempted to catch the neighbors cats in the have-a-hart trap, and tie a little note and a big bright red bow around their neck, and send them home to tell the neighbor to keep them out of my yard.
And I do agree that hunters could be a problem is some areas also. Maybee we could require tranquelizer darts for them. You know, there are a lot of Chinese restaraunts in this area! I think I have a new money making opportunity! JohnZ

I live in the country (40+acres W/in my family, soon to be 120+). I hunt deer for food, and I am against killing for fun. However, Feral animals on my property are fair game. Last year my daughter's goat was mauled by a pack of dogs (that was a darned expensive vet trip. They tore her up). Any cats in my yard (or my woods) other than the family cat (who is spayed to prevent proliferation) is fair game. I'll warn them once or twice with the BB gun, then I get serious with the Ruger. Dog Pack get no warnings (I go straight for the Ruger), while lone dogs get zapped by the BB gun. I guess, to make a long story story even longer, that killing animals is not a desirable passtime, but sometimes is necessary for land management. Things would be different if cats and dogs were endangered, but they're not. I like to maintain my propery in as pristine a shape as possible. The hunting is good, and the herping is even better! I hope that I don't come across as some sort of domestic animal hunting freak. I just want to manage my property the best way possible.

Feral animals are unnatural. They're introduced pests whether intentional (cane toads, goats) or accidental (africanized bees, zebra mussles, brown tree snake).
They wreak havoc on local ecosystems in a few years.
Humans have a responsibility to "Play god" and fix something if they're gonna "Play god" and break something.
I say blast 'em out of the grass. Cats are ferocious efficient hunters finely tuned for the sneak assult. As mentioned already, they dont always kill for hunger, they kill for play. "Ooooh, it flutters, I wanna catch it!!! Flop flop, crunch. That was fun! Now what?"
Sure they're cute and furry. That doesnt cut it with me. Call me cold and evil, I dont care. Trap the collards, fine the owners after a second offense, and shoot the collarless on sight.

You can put some Bologna outside on your door step to attract the cats. Get some boiling water with alot of salt and grits in it. When the cat comes close pour it on the cat. The water will obviously cause blisters, the salt will make it that much worse and the grits will be boiling and they will stick to the cats skin causing it a world of pain. After the cat has died, take it in your house. You can cut a piece of skin out of its side or wherever and put some vaseline on it and.....you know what I mean. I have heard of people nailing there tail down to something. Ive also heard of people choking the cat and pulling its head backwards and snapping the neck. I would never do any of this but this is just some examples.
