I will be graduating in a week from the University of Florida, GO GATORS, with a degree in marketing. I have always had a passion for animals and educating people about them, especially reptiles. I am looking for a job at a zoo or zoological park on the business side in either marketing, PR, or programming etc. Is there anyone out there who knows a curator or whoever the appropriate person would be to speak to about this type of job? Im really just looking for information and direction. Any and all help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Mike

I can't really help you, but I'd be willing to bet that you've just discovered the lowest paying job anyone with a marketing degree has ever set their sights on...

Yes, I work at the zoo also. What may I help you with? I work with the herps as well. As I may say, it pays alright. Well, technically, I work the beverage stand near the reptile part of the zoo. I sell cold ones to the guys who actually do work with the reptiles. But, my stand is near the reptiles, so I know a little about them. I know for a fact, that snakes will not eat cotton candy. Just a little knowledge for you.

Check www.aza.org
They have a job listing for all AZA zoos in the country. Every now and then I see management/PR/behind the scenes type stuff advertised on there.
Also, visit the webpages of any zoos you might be interested in. Most of them have a link for info on employment and some have job openings posted too.

If money/salary deter your passion for working at a zoo I reccomend enrolling into a a local zoo's docent program. It is for people who want to volunteer but get the benefits of the behind the scenes going-ons. I currently do it and the patnership works out well for both parties. I generally just try to answer general public questions and educate the public on conservation and about certain species' important roles and the impact they play in the scheme of things in our precious eco-system.
Later,
Todd

Sal is right the website to check out is aza.org and go visit the zoos you like and get to know the names of the players yourself. Disney's Animal Kingdom is always hiring but seldom posts openings. My zoo is full up right now but if something opens I'll contact you.
