I took a mtn bike ride down a local trail on Fri. I was out about and hour and saw nothing. Then I stopped to look at some interesting plants I had not seen before. Right next to one was a nice 3-4ft cotton mouth. I got a real long stick and picked it up to get a better position. I moved it around w/o harrasing it. It never showed even the slightest aggression and we played for about 15 mins before I put it back. It was beautifull and may have recently eaten a meal cause it had a slight buldge mid section. I was really suprised at how calm it stayed. Maybe cause I never got close? I then continued and down the dirt road was a 4' black racer that took off before I could even stop my bike. About 100 yds further was a 3' red belly which also took off before I could get a close look. Actually it was in the brush but I was not going after it-w-bare hands and legs. On the way back I saw the longest corn I've ever seen. I imagine they get bigger but this one was at least 4' but kind of skinny. Maybe about as big around as a golf ball. It was laying straight as a line across the dirt road. As I stopped it started to move slightly. I rushed up to it to get a closer look and this thing went wild. I've captured dozens of corns before and never had one act aggressivly. This thing was Devil corn. It actually left the ground lunging at me. Totally coiled and struck many time in my direction. After my copperhead bite I'm not free handling anything so I got a long stick again and it was balistic. Very unlike what I've sen before.
On the way out next to the road was a hawk-w-a snake pinned down. Really cool-stood a good 2' off he ground. I thought I'd steal it's meal but it flew off as I got closer. If figured maybe there was a "hot spot" where it was so I went over there and saw the wriggling end of a glass lizard. The hawk took off-w-the smart end so I guess the decoy didn't work. Had a lot of fun.
