This is because it is an essential characteristic in identifying the molecule. Lets say someone posts about a molecule with a molecular weight of 6789 from Naja pallida. Based on source and weight its a logical quick assumption that its a three finger toxins. Lets say that the molecule has a wildly different sequence and structure and you want to find it yourself. If you isolate something with a molecular weight of 6799 from the same venom then obviously you have isolated a different molecule.
