My rattlesnake is eating very nicely now . I was wondering is it alright for him to eat his food without
envenomating it first. He is very active and starts going after the rat right away . I just fed him today
and two and a half to three weeks ago.

It's not a problem. Venom aids in digestion (it is thought as much as 30%), but it is not essential. From what I've observed, digestion is little slowed by a lack of envenomation.
Great to here your snake is doing well!
