About the AV...I called my local zoo and they only carry some kind of AV that treats bites from ALL native species in the north and south american region...but nobody in the area has anything for exotic (African, Asian, etc) species.
I was thinking on joining the local herp society, but after hearing some at a local show talking about "getting drunk and handling their hots", I was pretty turned off. Plus too many have an ego.
Anyhow
I fed my atrox 2 hoppers and 1 adult mouse yesterday. I learned not to go near their food with hemo's almost the hard way. He stood up, rattled and darted at my arm (I made sure I was out of strike range). It startled me a bit, but as I figure it, at least I know his attitude and his mind a little better.
He kept them down and ate all 3. He's about a foot long now.
Shedding question (sorry about all of the ?'s). Do their fangs and rattles shed along with them? How often do their rattles get longer and gain buttons?
Thanks in advance,
Ryan

YOUR QUESTION:
"Shedding question (sorry about all of the ?'s). Do their fangs and rattles shed along with them?"
THE ANSWER:
No. Their fangs fall out several times per year, and may be lost when swallowing or striking prey. Once a fang falls out, a new one is ready to take it's place. If you will put the snake's poop on an old window screen and run water over it, sometimes you can find fangs that were excreted with the poop.
Rattlesnakes add a new rattle every time they shed. This may be as little as one or 2 times per year, or up to 6. It depends on the age of the snake, ie., younger snakes tend to shed more because they are growing more; and it also depends on how many meals the snake gets, i.e., the more meals a snake gets, the more it will grow and need to shed.
