I just got a Canon Rebel X camera. As far as I know it is one of the cheapest proffessional cameras on the market. I am going to be using this to photograph the snakes I study, and in fact will be bringing it to Texas with me in a couple weeks. I was curious if anyone out there has photographed reptiles with this camera. I would like to be reassured that it takes quality pictures.

DEAR LANGAHA I LIVE IN THE UK AND I'M NOT FAMILIAR WITH THE CANNON REBEL X IT PROBABLY GOES BY A DIFFERENT BRAND NAME WHAT I CAN TELL YOU THOUGH IS GENERALLY SPEAKING CANNON SLR'S ( I'M ASSUMING ITS AN SLR) ARE VERY ACCURATE HOWEVER THE SECRET IS IN THE QUALITY OF THE LENS MOST CANNON LENSES ARE EXCELLENT PROVIDING THE SHUTTER SPEEDS ARE ACCURATE AND THE METERING IS WORKING OK YOU SHOULD PRODUCE GOOD RESULTS
A COUPLE OF TIPS!
STICK WITH SMALL APERTURES WHERE POSSIBLE TO INCREASE DEPTH OF FIELD I.E. F16 F22
ALWAYS ALWAYS FOCUS ON THE SUBJECTS EYES EVEN SHOTS WITH SHALLOW DEPTHS OF FIELD CAN STILL LOOK OK IF THE EYES ARE IN FOCUS
IF YOU DON'T WANT THE EXPENSE OF A MACRO LENS BY A SCREW ON FILTER MAGNIFIER THESE CAN BE SUPRISINGLY GOOD AND CHEAP!
CHOOSE A LENS WITH A FOCAL LENGTH OF AROUND 100-200MM
THIS WILL GIVE YOU GOOD CLOSE UPS AND STOP YOU GETTING NAILED!!!GOOD HUNTING
