hello
i live in NC and currently keep coppers and cottons. I was wondering what affect venom would have on me with asthma. Also how would a bite from a elapid or more venomous exotic viper affect asthma. I would like to keep these but not sure of this. how long would it take to get anti-venom to nc from florida and do they keep anti-venom on hand for every species

Hey Jay.People who suffer from asthma may have some diffculties especially with hemotoxins which without asthma may make it difficult for one to breath, I know of someone who basically sufficated to death in less than an hour who did not have asthma that was bitten by a canebrake. hope this helps .

Hi,I think your main concern with being an asthmatic is 1st your reaction to anti-venom if you should ever require it.You may have an alergic reaction or more severe a anaphylactic shock which in the later, difficulty in breathing is present and being asthmatic will complicate things, also a mild reaction could also trigger a asthma attack.2nd'ly Another problem is just the fact of being bitten, with you panicking could trigger an attack, extrinsic and intrinsic ways.3rd'ly if your envenomated your body's immune system reacting to the venom could trigger asthma, and a combination of all the above means being an asthmatic is somthing you can't ignore and should be documented on your snake bite procols.Hope this helps some.
