Greetings,
Could you please tell me what state agency regulates the keeping of venomous herps? I live in Texas and every person I have asked about this, from game wardens to lawyers, has given me a different answer. I do not yet keep venomous snakes and want to know all of the legalities before I begin.
I thank you kindly for your help.

Two good sources of info are the Venomous Laws page at coastalreptiles.com and John Levell's book, A Field Guide to Reptiles and the Law. Hope it's what you're looking for.
Sincerely,

The state of Texas does not require permits to own venomous snakes however many cities in Texas have local laws prohibiting venomous or permits are required. Texas does require permits to collect snakes from the wild and to sell these animals as a dealer. The permit is called a NON GAME dealers permit.
Further information can be obtained from the Texas state TPW website.
www.tpwd.state.tx.us look under (new pages) near the bottom of the main web page permits or call
(512)-389-4647 Austin
Should you decide to obtain a venomous snake I recommend that you do not start with highly agressive species like Mamba's Tapians, King Browns or Cobra's
