Dumb answer: Don't keep them in a in a "screen top" cage if they require high humidity.
Other possible dumb answer: Cover the cage top as to keep in the humidity.

If you do use a screen top, wrap half of it with saran wrap to keep in humidity and leave the other half open for air to travel. I used this method with some dart frogs and it worked pretty good. Bryan

Jason:
Another thing I do to have a better handle on the humitity is substrate, I use "ReptilBark" by Zoo Med. It holds moisture very well and does not mold up. Also, I use a sponge which I keep wet that I store/hold in a shower type soap dish. It lets water go into the air and keeps things moist. My damn Bothrops asper loves to sit on the damn sponge!!

I have used sheets of plexglass which works pretty well. Its a has kept humidity up pretty well in some ampibians cages in the past. It also has done well with some tropical snakes too.

One Method that has worked well for me using screen top cages with high humidity animals is similar to what most have said with covering half of the screen with something to trap humidity. I personally don't like using any plastics to cover the screen, especially if it is close to a heat lamp. Some plastics will release fumes when heated that are usually not detected by humans, and are not good for the reptiles. On my screen tops I cover 2/3 of the screen with a small damp towel. Its not air-tight, so it still allows air to flow into the tank. But, by being next to a heat light and being damp its like having a little "storm cloud" above them. I usually change the towel every other day or so to keep it fresh. This has work great for me.

I also have to keep the humidity high in 2 of my tanks. I use a small towel folded to fit neat on top of the screen, and keep it damp. My vipers and anoles don't seem to have a problem with shedding or anything. So, its effective, at least in my case. Good luck.

Al,
I knew you would come out eventually. A guy who wears tube socks for photo sessions, is a shoe in for "coming out". Your Ass-per likes to sit on the damn sponge?! Dude, I think stuff like this should be kept "in". Ha ha ha.
I had to bust those chops Al...it was too big of an invite.
Back to the question. No question is dumb. I think it's a fairly good question, actually. I too use screen tops, but they would be considered lids...huge plywood hinged, tops that are wrapped in hardware cloth. Bryan had a good suggestion with the Saran wrap. I've used this same method for simulation of the humid time of year in this particular climate. Until I can muster the funds to completely transform this hot room into a real climate controlled area, this is the only way for me. Since species vary, the nice part about this method, is you can control each cages climate, so as to not have to have a half and half room.
Good luck with which ever method you decide to use, and be careful of any ass-pers that like to sit on sponges.
Cheers,
Matt
