Avoiding substrate intestinal impaction

I recently found a "new" way to feed my snakes and avoid accidental substrate ingestion. For those of us who like to use asthetically appealing substrate but have the woes of possible substrate ingestion, use a brown paper (lunch) bag. I placed the brown paper lunch bag (with the prey item)inside the enclosure and all my snakes have eaten readily using this method. Best of all, the lunch bags are cheap, disposable, and can be reused (within reason-just don't cross-contaminate). The bag also serves as a "cave" and I feel my snakes feeding response "fears" has been alleviated by allowing them to feel secure and my movement is obscured while they are feeding. Just a friendly little tip to those who may not have been aware of this "new" technique I accidently stumbled upon. Happy holidays everyone! (P.S. HEY AL, CAN YOU ELABORATE ON THE SUBJECT OF YOUR TUBE SOCKS? WHAT'S THE STORY?)

Hi Michael:
Wow...snakes that get to "Brown Bag" it...good idea!! A gold star for you!
Again this seems to be "SHHS folklore" If you look a the picture in my profile you will see me standing next to a Komodo Dragon on Komodo Island. Some very observant SHHS member noticed my "Tube Socks" I was wearing at the time. It has over time been elevated to local folklore status. If you do a search on the expert forum and plug in "Tube Socks" you will see a number of threads.
Cheers!
Al

I like it. Sometimes I'll place the prey item on a paper towel or a paper plate, but the brown bag sounds even better, especially with those shy eaters. I know some people will close up a neonate that won't eat in a paper bag with pinkie, but I never thought of just putting the open bag in the cage...
