Three observations and an idea

It's almost December (although you couldn't tell from being outside). Today I saw three cottonmouths. One was a juvenile (< 1 year old) cioled on a bank. One was an emaciated male ~2.5' that FOUR of my students walked by (within 7") before I saw it (I was with another group-I saw the snake as soon as I came to check up on them). The last snake was a healthy female, well marked (greenish with vivid brown stripes on the upper half of her body), and about 3.5' in length. She had some girth to her.
My idea is this. Web team: would it be possible to build each member a herpetology e-journal in which to record observations? There are a lot of posts of this type found in this forum, and I think that it would be more efficient to have a separate area. That way it could actually have some scientific validity. I know that there would be some numbskulls whose entries would go something like this: " Today I caught a 12' EDB here in Pennsylvania...", but most of us (I hope) would be trustworthy and diligent in our recordings. As a researcher, I would find it very useful to read, say, John Z's journal if I am looking for a particular species. You could even make it searchable. We could even save time (and make data collection more easily retrived) by having a standard format for easy data entry:

Hi:
I'm not sure that much of anything on this website can be added or fixed. The code is so old and "lame" fixing simple issues like loosing your post when going back to edit after previewing is not possible.
Nice idea but not currently applicable here, my opinion.

If there was an photo of the animal also involved, we could just encourage people to record more info than they currently do when posting Field Photos.
Is is possible to have a fill in the blanks of the items suggested below added to the information requested when posting photos?
Name:
Date:
State:
County:
Location:
Time of Day:
Species:
Size:
Sex:
If they listed all of the above, as Joshua has suggested, then the Field Photos Album could serve sort of the same purpose as a Field Journal. JohnZ

A few more things...
Greg caught a brain fart of mine...cottonmouths are banded (lateral markings), not striped (longitudinal markings).
I saw two more cottonmouths today :-). One was a larger female with a really nasty shedding problem. The other was a sickly looking male.
Hey guys, what do we have to do to update our (mostly your) web page? I'm not really complaining, but some amenities would be nice. I think JohnZ asked for a spell checker a while back, I've got this wacky e-herper's journal idea, and the ability to post in html would be nice. I mean, if there is something that any of us can do to help, I'm sure we'd be willing to try. What do you need? An updated server or software? If you just need help archiving, a few of us know basic HTML, JAVA, or other languages. This really is a great page.
