Hi, first time here!
Hope someone can give me some advice!
Are there any venomous snakes that have only tiny effect(some swollenness and some local pain, without tissue damage) on the human body? Heard about the Hognose... Any other?
What about the Boiga dendrophila?
Regards,
/Peter

There are many mildly venomous snakes thats bites aren't dangerous. However, even within these snakes, certain species venom is more potent than others. And you never know exactly how you are going to react to venom. Typically when you talk about mildly venomous snakes, mostly rear-fanged colubrids come to mind(opisthoglyphous). The hognose snake is only cosidered venomous or dangerous to its small prey, and it is doubtful that humans would even be effected at all. Its rear enlarged teeth are probably even more so used to puncture its prey, consisting largely of frogs. The Mangrove snake,(Boiga) is more toxic to humans, and would probably cause some localized pain and swelling at the least. It is also known to be aggressive. The vine snakes of South America and Asia are rear-fanged also and produce very mild venom. Vine snakes are fairly harmless to man(non agressive). Brown Tree snakes from Australia(Boiga)and the Lyre Snakes from Southwestern United States are some more. Also, Montpellier snakes(Malpolon)and Skaapstekers from Africa. There are many mildly venomous snakes in this world, too many to mention here. But those are a few that have been kept in captivity. I recommend you read up on some field guides. They are very helpful, and pack a lot of useful info.

Any of the Aspidelaps might be said to have a relativly minor effect on the human body. You would likely not get much more than some swelling, perhaps a little dufficulty breathing... I know of one fellow who had an envenomation from A. scutatus, and I might be willing to forward his bite account.
Cheers

Hi Roger!
Heard something about Aspidelaps that the venom effect differed remarkably between the lubricus lubricus and lubricus infuscatus... Hope someone can clear it out!
