When I visited Belize in May of last year, I talked to a couple of locals, some native locals and some "transplanted" there from other areas in the world, and they all spoke about the native venomous snakes as various kinds of tommygoffs. The terciopelo was called the yellow-jawed tommygoff, the eyelash viper was the tree tommygoff, and the jumping viper was the jumping tommygoff. The locals believe that Atropoides could actually jump into trees and such. Of course this is all bunk, but still interesting stuff!
