LOWER POTTSGROVE -- The 17-year-old boy who brought a copperhead snake to St. Pius X High School where it bit a fellow student has been charged for the Oct. 21 incident, according to police.

I am posting the link here, instead of in the news, because the news is still limited to URL Addresses of under 75 characters, and would have been cutt off and rendered un-usable.
Did the webmasters ever look into adding more room for URL addresses to the news posting program as was suggested a couple of months ago?
It sure would be usefull now that most news items have these dumb huge addresses.
Merry Christmas

John,
Does anyone know how the young girl is doing? I was also wondering if anyone could confirm the location? Context clue suggest Philadelphia, PA.

I believe that she recovered fully.
Perhaps Al knows more about this as it is in his corner of the world.

She's doing fine since it was a small smake and treatment was not delayed too much.
This is my opinion: The boy obtained the snake for the Hamburg show, since no Copperheads are found where he said he caught it...

I think anyone that knows me at all knows I am not in favor of regulation... but I would hope that a minor could not go into a show and purchase any type of hot reptile. Can they?

You're not the only one, Al. I've seen some of the "reputable", highly respected dealers do some real shady stuff.

I love to attend the shows and buy things, but I have seen stuff also that pisses me off. I don't know about under age buying, but I know that most venders will sell you anything, without asking you if you have expirence with it. I could go on about it , but I beleive I'll keep my mouth shut.

Unfortunately this is precisely the sensational type incident that triggers action in the state legislature. API & PETA look for tragic events such as this to exploit in the persuit of their extremest agenda. There always seems to be an activist in the woodwork somewhere that will use this opportunity to get the API/PETA written bill in front of the legislature. They try to claim the moral high ground by espousing public safety. They will support their argument with emotionaly charged rhetoric and pseudo-facts. It is in essence a blanket ban on many, many animals. We have been actively fighting this same bill here in the state of NC.

I agree, I have never been asked if I had any experience by any of the venodors, or asked if I lived in a state where keeping venonous was legal. I even had to offer my license every time I bought anything, just so it was on record, and ask for a receipt of purchase. It covers both me and the dealer.
Andrew, keep fighting. Hopefully you'll have more understanding people than we did here in NY. If all fails, try to get a permit system rather than giving in to an all out ban. Good luck.
