Hi,
I have seen lots os discussion on Fang Length, Venow Ammount etc, but what i have never seen discussed is,
How wide does a venomous snake need to get its mouth open to be able to inflict a good bite.
HNope this isnt a too stoopid questioon..

It depends on the type of snake.
Rattlers can hit you open mouthed or slip out a fang and hook you.
Cobras have to bite down and get you.
death adders can hit you open or bite without seeing them get you one of the fastest striking elapids.
so to answer you question you can be bitten by a nearly closed mouth but they only need a millisecond to open and get you.
