I caught a young Yellowbelly Water Snake (Nerodia erythrogaster flavigaster) today. It measured probably 12 in. and was a little sluggish, from the looks of the Snake it was very Healthy. I hope this will be a good sign of the Months to come, I hope that this year is more productive than the last. ............................Be Safe Ya’ll, Happy Herping : Wally

Congrats, Wally.
Caught my first US snake of the year today too.
It was a foot long striped California Kingsnake that I flipped out from some roofing shingles.
Good Luck for the rest of the year,
Karl

Yesterday must have been the day for snakes! I caught my first snake of the season yesterday too. It was an eastern king that slithered out of the tractor's box (I was boxing in preparation for planting). I was worried that I unwittingly hurt it, but it was fine.

well its still very quiet over here in England, It is still pretty cold and miserable, Although the temps are staying stable and Spring is here, But the only thing that I have seen moving of interest to me is abot 12 Frogs that have paired ready for breeding, But thet have been paired for over 2 weeks, As the temperature dropped quite dramatically and froze the pond over I have put that down to the reason no spawn has been produced yet.
We are in a kind of Reptile limbo, to cold to move, to warm to stay asleep when normally breeding and feeding are on the agenda at this time,
I am hoping to observe Vipera Berus mating rituals as there are a small amount of them locally.
I should have a Camera by then and will hopefully post the pics if there good enough,
Good hunting to you all.

It`s horrible in Romania right now. Winter hasen`t left yet...a blizard took place yesterday, and now there`s loads of snow. In the last week of february and last saturday I found some common frogs(Rana temporaria) but those were just oddly warm days. I hope to find some reptiles by the end of the month. I haven`t seen such an aughfull spring for a very long time.
Why couldn`t I be born on the ecuator or near it ? :)
Take care and happy herping !

On Saturday I found my first herps of the year. I found 4 water snakes but couldn't identify them because they jumped into the water to quickly. I then found a big Common Snaper Turtle. Then a several 5 lined-skinks. And a dusky salamander. Here is a link where you can see the Snapper which photos I took with my new camera. http://www.fieldherpers.com//view.php?site=fieldherpers&bn=fieldherpers_fieldherping&key=1142195029

No, my king was a milk chocolate colored, yellow-striped coastal California Kingsnake (Lampropeltis getula californiae) from San Diego county (but not the desert area this time) ;-)
