Hi all!!!
I just want to know what white lipped tree viper venom will do to me IF I had to get tagged???? The BIG QUESTION is, WILL I DIE???v Anti-venoms for exotic snakes arent available here in South Africa.
I have realy fallen in love with these snakes. I keep lots of NON-VENOMOUS snakes, and I feel that I am ready to start with HOTS. I have lots of experience with hots, because I worked in a snake park, and I study allot. IS TRIMERESURUS A GOOD FIRST HOT???
PLEASE let me know of all the info I can get about this species!!!!
Keep well!

Albolabris should make a good first hot snake, but bare in mind that it's an aboreal species, if you've ever handeled an aboreal snake with a hook you'll know it might be quite hard to get then OFF the hook once the're on it.
If you would be bitten by T albolabris it would cause you a great deal of pain, discolouring of the bitten tissue, and probably some swelling.
This however is the best case scenario. Who knows if you are allergic to the venom? the only way to figure that out is to get bitten (But I suggest you do not try that!)
If you are, by chance, allergic to this snake the consequenses of a bite might be a lot worse an you could lose a limb, or your life!
Keep a healthy distance from the snake's head, and use the proper tools.
Good luck and have fun!

What will the venom of the white lip viper do? Swelling of the hand and arm almost reaching twice normal size will happen water blisters can form from the swelling vomiting usually will happen about 8 hours after the bite. Should the venom load be heavy both fangs the tissue near the bite will turn black blood blisters will form and infection will set in.
White lip vipers are aggressive and will bite if disturbed very much at all. Be very careful working around these snakes. I made the mistake of trusting my White Lip viper and was bitten.
