I dont really like keeping anything venomous. Not for my sake but I allways have my little nephew over and he loves to get in my stuff, and it wouldn't be nice if he got bit. I mean i get nervous when he askes to pet my savannah monitor.
On the other hand if it did bite me it would make mewant to keep it.

muy stupido...what if he comes over and trips over your furniture and knocks his tooth up in the roof of his mouth to where the pallet has to be removed and he will never be able to eat regularly again....if the cages are SECURELY locked then the latter is a lot more likely....

by the way...i have a 8 month old nephew and a 15 month old little girl that can identify 4 different snakes anytime i ask her....its understandable she has to be watched but she cant get in to the cages and she can only touch the kingsnake until she is old enough to understand the danger of being bitten by a canebrake

Well I don't put anyone down for deciding to not keep venomous for any reason, including because of kids. That is definetely your call and would be respected either way. Keeping non-venomous can be just as satisfying and interesting. However, I do agree with fizzbob in that, as long as the cages are locked at all times and safety is practiced to a t, then it can be very safe. Kids from a young age should be taught that venomous snakes can put your life at risk and hurt very bad, but they shouldn't be taught that venomous snakes are just simply "bad snakes". Good herp hunting. ----Anthony
