Is there anyway the site moderators can promote honest profiles? I would rather invest my time "talking" with someone who fills out their profile honestly.
Case and Point. On June 12,edv7028 posted a request asking for someone to take his newly captured Coral snake off his hands. I replied, thinking that I could do this guy a favor. edv7028 then lists another post asking how "he" can milk his coral snake. Upon looking at "his" ("Ed Vasquez") profile, "he" is "55 years old" and has been keeping venomous reptiles for "30 years". If "he" has that much experience, why would "he" be asking how to milk a coral snake in the first place? "He" should know that there would be no such benefit whatsoever in that endeavour.
I really like this site, there are some good people who post here that have the best intentions. I despise the people who post here with no honesty, integrity, or morals. Be safe and happy herpin'! Michael

Hey Mike.
I know what you are saying. I administrate on several forums including a couple fishing sites " fishermen = liar by nature of hobby lol" been doing it for years and the best advice i can give you is this.
Do not read profiles. we can all be 6'2....220 pounds with full heads of hair and look like body builders in our profiles and have the vast experiance of an immortal.
Give everyone a chance till they are proven to be less than what they have said, once proven to be false then just ignore them. It is impossible to verify each and every person as to who they are unless someone knows them in person. And no site staff has the time or resource as none are paid for being a volunteer on a site to worry about verifying profiles. I hate to say it but until everyone decides to be honest and parents stop letting kids on the net unsupervised that is just the grim reality. Though i do think this site does a good job when they are made aware of a problem.

Some people are just paranoid about anyone finding out their real identity. Others are up to no good, but we do a fair job of weeding them out.
You know what's odd about this site? So far this month there have been 365,000 page views, but only 97 people have participated in the survey. I guess that's because Google searches can bring up any of the 18,000 pages on this website.

Michael, while the guy you mention MIGHT be a troll, I sort of assumed he just read the question wrong in the profile and answered with how long he's been keeping herp. Most keepers of non-hots don't know much more about hots that the average person.
Chris, does whatever you're using to track page views make any attempt to filter out hits by search engines scanning the whole site or spam bots looking for email addresses?
Also, I can see where some people might be reluctant to answer the current survey at least. I know if I were keeping illegally, I wouldn't say so no matter how confident I was in it being anonymous, just because the poll results will certainly be quoted in someone's legislative proposal, somewhere. Also, most visitors probably don't keep hots and most people won't bother with a poll where their answer to the only question will be the equivalent of "not applicable". I'm not complaining about the poll, just saying I'm not surprised.

Michael,
When weeding out the phony postings from the legit ones I do a search in the "Experts" section of the said person screen name and read their previous posts. That usually will give me a general idea of the person in question. Though this will not work on 1st time postees. Hope this helps.

Hi...
It's now August 5th 2007, and I just now read this diatribe on my profile. I sincerely apologize if I upset anyone; but...
I don't EVER remember saying that I've kept snakes for 30 years. I have NEVER kept any snakes for over a couple of days as in the case of the last Coral Snake I caught.
I gave that Coral to a guy that drove 300 miles to pick it up and place it in the zoo that he runs in West Texas.
If I screwed-up on my profile, I'm really sorry. I never meant to mislead anyone in any way; but possibly I typed something where it shouldn't have gone. Anyway, I hope all those with Ruffled Feathers accept my apology.
Gee guys... calm down a little huh ??? Might be nerves from too much time with "Hots" !
Regards,
Ed VA (edv7028)

I forgot...
I NEVER wanted to Milk the Coral Snake that I caught. I was just CURIOUS. I just wanted to know if it was POSSIBLE; and that is exactly what I asked.
