I know that Al currently keeps a couple species of dwarf bitis, but i was wondering who else keeps these, and are there any special techniques used to keep them?

Lewis:
These are not beginner snakes (husbandry) they are very difficult to keep alive. They are fragile and not good travelers. I lost 3 feeding adults last year just in transporting them a few hundred miles. This year I put $2080 worth of babies in my freezer, so far. I have a nice collection of Dwarf Bitis but expect to loose 50% of what you get.

Hi,
I have kept Bitis worthingtoni.
Al is right, dwarf Bitis are not for beginner. They can make problems in feeding because some of the dwarf adders natural prey are lizards.
Fact is if you get helathy CB or very healthy and acclimatized animals you have good chance to keep them longer than a few weeks. Many WC are dehydrated and will die because of this. Therefore it is important to administrate NaCl or to offer them water via a syringe (without a needle).
Another problems are the temperatures some species needs. Bitis worthingtoni occurs in an area which is more than 1500 meters above sealevel. Temperatures at day could reach 28°C-32°C and at night the temperatures degrease to 15°C or a little bit more. You see it is a dramatically change of temperatures within a few hours. This is important and vital for some species like B. worthingtoni. Constantly high temperatures (eypecially in summer) could be the death for this poor animals. This is why I have sold my Naivasha horned viper. Very nice and interesting animals and my top favourite because I was often in Kenya and I love this country, but if I have not the chance to keep a species under ideal conditions I won`t keep them.
Some other species like Bitis caudalis or Bitis cornuta are a easier in this case but only experienced people should keep them.
Cheers,
Florian
