Was it a loading pen, or a hippo pond? I seem to recall Erik Keyster telling me it was once the hippo pool, which was chilled or so, THEN, the retrofitted it with heaters to hold their komodos, and now it was retro-fitted again as a chinese salamander tank.....something like that.
Its really cool. I've got pics of it now. I'll post them today or tomorrow.

Excuse the typos....its late, and I had to clear space on the server to put the pics up, even after resizing them several times.

Matt, thanks for posting the photos. That is a very kool setup for the giant salamanders!
I hope they produce a bunch of offspring!

You're welcome. I think they are one of the neatest creatures on earth. I wish I had the time to attempt a Cryptobranchus breeding program...
Doug, on second look, I think you're right. That area looks like it was initially a loading dock.

Hmmmm...that salamander looks vaguely familar. They are just a bit larger now! Our biggest one is about 100cm and weighs over 7kg!! He even tried to eat my foot today while I was in the exhibit feeding them!
We also took down one of the runs in the back room and now the wall is lined with aquilus, triseriatus, pricei, and a few Lampropeltis.
Hope ya'll have a great new year and looking foward to coming up there some time!!!

Gotta love them Sallys! Sal, I'll have to shoot down there again soon. I was down at Sea World for a meeting about a month or so ago but didn't have time to swing over to see you all. When I get some free time soon I will make it back down and see the 'ole place!
