i watched 3 snake shows this morning on the NG channel and wow, these shows are just horrible. they misnamed animals, they completely villified them and even used "scary" music in the background. they treated internet myths as fact or possible fact. they called defensive posturing and striking AGGRESSIVE BEHAVIOR even though 12 guys were trying to "wrangle" a 12ft retic.
they also had a horrible piece on the serpent handlers and called copperheads "deadly venomous". they also treated the guy as "special" because he received a bite (didn't say if it was or wasn't dry) from a 2.5ft copperhead and amazingly didn't die even though he sought no medical attention. of course, most copperhead bites involving adults gets you pain killers and not much more anyway.
they really pander to the "snake dumb" audience and play on irrational fears. i felt like they did nothing but entertain and when that involves snakes, that's usually a bad thing for snakes and people like us.

i totally agree with you man. those shows really annoy me for the same reasons that you stated. its sad that 80% of the people that watch those shows watch them simply for the entertainment factor which would be the dangerous and unsafe handling practices. god forbid you actually learn something while watching TV lol!

the only reason i watch them is to see the animals. one was about the deadliest snakes and the main "character" had 15 years experience in the field, which he boasted about (wow, impressive, most on this site have more than that). they caught (they meaning the expert and not the main character) a large king cobra which was great, but other than that, i had to vacuum and can you guess which sucked the most? :)

Ya know...I am absolutely OBSESSED with O. hannahs...and I still have a hard time sitting through Austin Stevens' banter and stupid antics so I can watch them on TV.

Sarecho, I'm assuming you're referring to the NG episode entitled Dangerous Encounters: Deadliest Snakes. Brady Barr claims to be a "reptile expert", yet he always needs his hand held by the pros he works with like Gerry Martin and the black mamba handler whose name escapes me. I would much rather have, as I've stated before, simply watched the pros of the episode do their thing without Brady's "Holy Sh*t!" commentary.

lol, yeah, that guy literally looked overwhelmed. he's that guy that you'd never invite herping (unless his cameraman comes along)
heck, the cameraman even found the king cobra in that episode lol.
he just panders to TV WAY too much.
