Slightly off topic, but both of the scorpion boards I know of are completely dead...
Can anyone tell from looking whether this scorpion is gravid or just fat? For refernce, it's a Florida Bark Scorpion.

And as payment for your consultation, here are a couple other pictures, all of the same scorpion (but maybe not the same as above) under different lighting:
Room lights:

Larry, based only on .jpg #2, she looks to be gravid.
We see some seperation on the back plates and a fair amount of swelling. You should know for sure in a couple of weeks, as if she is gravid, it still has a way to go yet. Really can not tell from the other photos, but the UV Light ones are really kool !

Larry, do you know any dentists? Something that small could be set up under a dental x-ray.

If this sheds any more light, I forgot to add that about a week or so ago, I think she may have killed the other female that I had in the same enclosure. I know from what little experience I have with them that they have no qualms about cannibalism, so are they known to kill other adults when they are expecting?
I never would have thought of an x-ray. Of course that would cost more than she and all her offspring are worth. I'm mostly just curious, no compelling need to know.
Speaking of which, does anyone in the South Florida area need any Bark Scorpions? I already have 15 of them, and as interesting as they are, I don't need 50...

Is the lighting thing natural for that to happen, what causes it?
I'm interested in taking a scorpion off off your hands if you can get it to me, how much are you asking?

Chris, many Scorpions fluorese when viewed under UV ( Black Light). You can get a UV filter for a flashlight or a UV headlamp and go out and find them at dark.
Check out this web site for more information:

I have also read that if you keep scorpions under UV light all the time, as in a cage setup, it will make them sick and then they will die. A lot of reptile lamps produce large amounts of UV light, so it is something to be cautious about.

Larry, I am not sure about the behavior in Bark Scorpions, but the Emperor Scorpions we used to keep at AZP were kept in large groups, and there was often gravid females in the cage. I do not remember any instance of a gravid female Emperor Scorpion killing another one. They were kept well fed, and had a lot of hiding places, so that might be a factor.
