I have contacted the appropriate people. I reside in Indiana, now there is a Bill 1472 under a different author (Bischoff) I hope that you will all help out in e mailing your congresmen and senators. Lets get our views out there and teach people that this is not a deadly and dangerous hobby with the proper education and training.

I agree but at the same time, as a venomous community, we can't even get on the same page as to what is the right kind of training. Until there is a unified group/organization, that has political clout and power, that enforces strict and stringent safety protocols, minimum age requirements, much better handle on reptile swaps/shows that allow the sale of venomous, etc I think we are fighting a losing battle. Our efforts to protect our hobby continue to be undermined by incompetent, immature, and inept keepers (and unscrupulous breeders/sellers are just as much to blame). Sites like this help along with some of the other flagship organizations that frequent here that are doing good work but it can't just fall on one person's shoulders. Apathy is a killer.

i am young dont know a whole big lot about venomous snakes i do know some and would like to help if theres a way but i dont know if the other members would like it they seem to not like underage keepers as they showed numerous times in other posts but i still know alot about pythons boas and colubrids so if i can help then i will but i do not want to be scrutinized by someone i dont even know. see the problem with this site is that you can see peoplesw experience level and if your young theyre rude but if you have 20 years experience then you are like a god but theres no proof people can lie yound and old i said the thing about the bushmaster to prove this point. all im saying is that members should give young people to speak so that every ones view is expressed and they dont feel like theyre on trial

I appreciate any help I can get, I can e mail you some info. The ban is on Boas pythons and Monitors, anything over 6ft. So any knowledge is good knowledge. You can e mail me some good points to pass on to my Senator, which by the way he called me back this morning around 9:00am EST. iclark1978@yahoo.com any info will help.

Generally speaking, people on here can tell if you're lying about something, especially if you're new.
You started off your chance to speak and express your view with a lie, now people won't take you seriously.
I don't feel anyone is treated like a god, and if they are, it's because they've earned the respect of other keepers. Earned their respect by CONDUCTING themselves in a responsible and mature manner. Earned their respect by either adding something of value or by asking a logical question showing that they are RESPONSIBLE, proving to the people who have been on the forum for years, that they are serious about venomous reptiles. Through the years I've been on here I've seen it over and over again, and still see it. Someone comes on here, whether young or old, asking a simple question about the new hot they just acquired, or asking a question about how to handle cobras, only to go out and buy the damn thing within the next few days. If people want to be taken seriously, want some semblance of respect, and want the knowledge that people in here can provide. Then, they need to prove that they are mature, responsible, and worthy of that knowledge and capable of keeping venomous snakes.
Noone here wants someone else's blood on their hands or wants to see someone get hurt or killed, and regardless what new keepers or the fly by nighter's think, that's what happens if someone gives advice to someone who is incapable of keeping these snakes.
I think I speak for everyone when I say that everyone has something to learn here, and we all give pople the opportunity to speak their minds and express their views, AS LONG AS it's in a mature and serious manner.
The reason that bill went into effect is because someone who wasn't MATURE, RESPONSIBLE, or CAPABLE of keeping those snakes, purchased them without experience, knowledge, or even the proper tools, and was subsequently bitten. No other reason. We don't discourage young people from asking questions, or trying to gain any knowledge, but we will discourage them from making a dangerous, impulsive decision.

Greg: If I made you fill like I was calling you incapable, I am by all means sorry. But, if you want to help in trying to push these Idiotic Laws back into the Garbage were they belong. Its like other Members have told you “no mater what your age, you can Write your Congressmen and let him/her know how you fill”. Actually, we need more Youngsters with your way of thinking.
PS: I hope that you will keep this frame of mind, it could be the one thing that keeps this Hobby going for ages to come. Remember, you and other Young, up and coming Keepers are our Future, and that is an Undeniable Fact.
Be Safe Ya’ll, Happy Herping : Wally

Good news, Bill 482 has died and will not be heard by the Senate. Thank you to everyone for their help in this matter.
