my buddy was cleaning cages and put his broadband male in with the female cantil sure enough they locked up. now for the question, will they produce babies(i told him there was a good chance..example.cottonheads). if there are babies what are the chances they'll not be sterile babies....personally i don't like hybrids, accidents or not....most accidental breedings could be cured with a clean 5 gallon bucket.

it depends on what your looking for. I have hybridized various agkistrodon ssp in the past and it is quite possible they will take. What they go for typically depends on the market and timing, animal prices (both livestock and exotics) vary drastically, but I am sure you can find someone who will be interested. Good luck,
Jared

Cantil X copperhead = INFIRTILE NEONATES.
There is a huge diference between breeding 2 different subspecies of coppherhead and breeding 2 completely different species (like cantils and copperheads), even if they are in the same genus.
I guarantee: sterile babies !
Best regards,
Alex

I agree with Alex, for the most part. You may find one or two fertile speciemns, but your odds are literally one in a million (there has been, to my knowledge, only one case of a fertile mule).

Alex what about cottonheads PiscivorusXContortrix, and heck Jungle corns (kingsnakeX corn). Heck I have seen vieable carpondos produced and various zoos and MANY KingsnakeXrats. I mean, this is just what I have seen. But I have seen several viable cottonheads in my time. Just a thought,

Hi Jared,
I have also seen kingsnake X corn snake for sale in a pet store from Athens (Greece). From what I know, the probability of 2 different species having fertile babies together are one in a million. It`s not impossible just very highly improbible.
Althought, I have read about a case of Vipera ammodytes and Vipera aspis having babies in F2. That means that that at least one baby in the first litter was fertile.
Best regards,
Alex

The old "Rules of Taxonomy" that differentiated one Species from another Species based on the ability to breed or not breed, or the ability to produce viable offspring, are probably what needs to be changed.
We have to remember that Scientific "Rules" are just "Theories," and have changed many times in the past, and will change more in the future.
They are not chistled in stone, and should be looked at as just the current "Theory" of how things work, until a better explination comes along due to new science and research.
Best Regards JohnZ
