I just killed a rattlesnake two days ago in Osage County Okla, close to Burbank, Okla
It was about 10 inches long and had irregular blotches, If it is still there when the rain stops i will get a pic. I did get the very small button from it. It was curled up on a small rock when it decided to strike the bottom of my boot. I think it was a baby timber rattler but i have not really found a picture that totally looks like it, can you shed some light on this rattler.
thanks
Jim

Dude and Greg. lighten-up! If education is the key to changing peoples attitudes, what would possess you to chase them away with dumb-ass demeaning comments? To Pilotroper: A decent photo would help. If that is not possible try your states DNR (Department of Natural Resources) on the web. Many of them have lists and pictures of native reptiles. I'm sorry that the snake didn't make it. It probably wasn't necessary to kill it. Simply walking away probably would have sufficed. But then again, I wasn't there. Snakes, including rattlers are an integral part of the natural ecosystem. Their importance in nature's balance far outweighs their threat. They won't run after you and attack or any mean-spirited anthropomorphism like that. With a little more knowledge many people realize that these animals are fascinating rather than demons. To that end this site is always willing to help. In the meantime, try to get a photo or check out your DNR. Let us know how it goes.
