Chip, I thought folks here would get a kick out of the Mrs. Parks article, so I posted it into the News here.
Wonder if she is also finding Rattlesnake eggs around her flower pots ?
The really scarey thing is that people like her can write an advise coloum on medical issues for a news paper.
Since she was good enough to list her EMail address at the end of the article, I would hope someone here would write her Nicely and tell her that Copperheads do not hatch from eggs. Flames will probably not cause her to possibly update her article, and would just not be nice.
Best Regards JohnZ

Done. I also asked politely if she could share the pictures. Hopefully she didn't get 37.434.534 flames before that and just start tuning everyone out...
I expect to see pictures of baby corn snakes...

I take that back...they'll be brown snakes. I should have done a search first. No wonder she's heard about it several times, that happens with internet hoaxes.

I did send her an email last night, as a matter of fact, after reading the acticle. I was tactful, yet to-the-point, and explained that I'd seen the article here, on a site dedicated to educating people about venomous reptiles, both in the wild and in captivity. Here is her response, which I just received:
"
WOW! You got me told! It's OK-- I deserved it! I've had eight emails
and
this is my response:
When a person is in error, they should admit it! I ADMIT IT!! Thank
you
all for sharing your correct "snake" information - I should have known
better! You can bet I will double-check my sources! Especially when
writing somewhat out of my specialty-- accurate information is a must!!
I
will write a correction, which will appear in a couple of weeks.
I'm pleased that so many of you seem to have accesses to my column.
Some of
you said that a friend gave you the paper and I'm sure some of you get
it
online: FYI www.unionsentinel.com Your Health Matters - usually
listed
under Arts & Leisure.
Thank you.
Claudia Parks"

I heard back from her also. I sent her the link I posted above and she says she thinks those are the pics her friend sent her. It also sounds like she may have a few words for her fried later... :)

I have also emailed her to ask she admit her mistake in reporting such a panicking article. Fact checking is so lax in reporting news stories.
Hopefully she will admit her wrongs and keep good old folk from having heart attacks when they see a snake.
God I hope they make sure it is a snake instead of a fan belt or something similiar. :)
