We recently found an area full of gopher turtle burrows and those small cactai with the yellow blooms and it looks like the perfect area for edbs. Its a large sandhill area with no houses around. I havnt seen no edbs but Im sure they are there. Whats the best way to find edbs in this type of area?

Hello,
EDBS tend to be motionless for many hours and if you are out and about and you disturbed one you will soon be aware of its being.Due to the fact it will rattle very loud and it will be very clear.
And more often than not it with be in a raised postion.
Do you have access to research records in your area for EDBS could prove intresting.
Also look out for the skins(shed)be a give away that you have them their.
Hope this helps.Richard M.

Kyle, get out there early in the day, 7:00 to 9:00 a.m. and carefully walk from Gopher Tortiose burrow to burrow. Also, be alert to snakes sunning a few feet from the burrows.
Take a strong flash light with you, or a sigaling mirror, so that you can direct light down into the burrow openings. Many times the Diamondbacks will be resting just inside of the burrow openings.
With the hot weather we have been having, by 10:00 a.m. it will be too late, the snakes will allready be down in the burrows out of sight. You might want to try again in late afternoon, early evening, if the temperatures have cooled some.
You will probably get only one quick chance to reach in with a hook and bring a snake out to the open.
Also, remember that when they excape down a burrow, they will often turn back around almost immediatly to face the danger, so do not reach after them with a snake hook when you miss one that has rushed into a burrow. Good Luck !
Best Regards JohnZ
