I have a large three toed amphiuma (amphiuma trydactylum) that is floating. It is a recent wild caught specimen and other than the floating seems fine. Floating is mid-bodied, but the animal still moves around alot. I've been told that it may be floating because of something it ate, causing excess gas in its intestines but I don't know for sure. Any help would be appreciated.

Odd, because I was just talking about this yesterday. lol. I don't know if this will help but I used to have a common snapper who got gas and floated every time I fed him minnows from the bait store. I think it was from the swim bladders in the fish.
I would lay him on his back, wiggle his back legs like he was riding a bicycle. Sort of like you do when playing with a baby, just wiggling the legs... pretty soon he'd start .. well.. farting. after several rounds of flatulence he'd be just fine and able to sink. It was sort of like 'burping' him but from the other end.
I'm not sure how you'd go about this with an amphiuma though.
