Is there any place in the U.S. that
offers herpetology
schooling, or is it
too dangerous to do such a thing with
novices? Thanks.

Are you talking about getting a degree, or just learning how to handle venomous snakes?
There are a few Universities that offer degrees in Herpetology, but nowhere that I know of that offers classes on handling venomous snakes. Your best bet is to find a venomous keeper near year and become his/her protege'. Most people start this way.

I was very interested in this myself because I would like to become a field biologist (which requires atleast a masters degree). I have also expressed interest in working as a zoo keeper until I finish all my schooling since zoo keepers, although it is very competitive, only requires a B.S. where someplaces will accept assosiates degrees still. Getting to your question I have done some research going to university web pages and checking out the type of classes they offer and what degrees. Many Institutions offer Herpetology classes but you would be hard pressed to find one that offers an actual degree, atleast i havent found one that does. I have also talked to local zoos in my area and zoo keepers and they have recommended volunteering at a zoo or with a private collector to get experiance with Herps. Not sure if this is the type of answer you were looking for but it is by no means exclusive and only gained through my own research.

Thanks for your feedback, Mojo. As Chris asked me,
though, I'm simply looking to learn about handling
venomous snakes as opposed to getting a degree. Good
idea about volunteering at a zoo; I'll have to look
into that.

Guess this could've been included in my last post.
Anyway, are there any venomous keepers in Minnesota
willing to show a 48-year-old novice the ropes? I've
been blown away by "hots" since I was a little kid. I
don't smoke or use drugs, and am about to start a 10-hr
day job. By no stretch of the imagination am I looking
to be cool---just love venomous snakes. Thanks for any
replies.
