I currently started milking 2 rattlers that my cousin and I own. We have a female 3'5" canbrake and a 4'6" timber. When I first triied we yeilded .10cc combined from both snakes. I triied again a week later and we yieled nothing. I waited another week and we yielded .08cc. I know that the yield should be much higher. Am I doing something wrong? How long does it take for the snakes to regenerate thier venom? Any ifo on this will be very much appreciated. Thank you, CAB

I suppose my first question is, why are you milking them? What exactly are your plans for this venom? It's very stressful on the animals and they will usually stop eating after you do this. It is this exact reason that Bill Haast has to tube feed every animal he has. If you are wanting to keep them in captivity for any period of time, I would stop milking them immediately.
If you are aspiring to open a venom lab, you have a tough road ahead of you. You will be competing with Jim Harrison, Bill Haast and George Van Horn. The SHHS also has one member who aspires to open a venom lab and is way ahead of anyone else that I know of. You will need degrees in biochemistry, biology, toxinology, herpetology or something similar to even be able to compete. With that said, it can still be done if you really want it.

Agree with Chris. I can think of few activities less profitable than milking venomous snakes, especally if you are doing it just to be milking snakes. Murderously stressful to the snakes and greatly increases the chances of getting some of the product injected into yourself.
To set up a commercial venom line, you must also have lab conditions and these are inspected by the customer, mainly Wythe Phamicutical, and a gram of freeze-dried venom doesn't sell for all that much. You've got to be able to get a lot of it to show a profit. As perviously stated, it can be done, but it's difficult.
luck,
