I used to have some pretty strong feelings about how people kept monkeys and some other animals (like drssing them, ear piercing) and that was one of my first lessons- it's their animal and their choice. Next came choice of animal- I don't have to want one and have NO desire to own a big cat, just a little serval, but why shouldn't they be treated the same as any other animal including venomous reptiles? Drivig a car can get ya killed and millions do it every day including myself. It's all about choices and the right to choose. I've had some good teachers long the way, one has been fighting animal legislaton for close to 20 years and learned that regulating is not what's wanted by what we fight against. ARA want it ALL and will keep coming back incrementally- giving them a hand is just rolling THEIR peanut forward. People have to learn to live with any animal where they are native to- why exempt those who aren't-animal or person? Learn to live with rather than without or at least let others have that right. I'll be looking at owning venomous reptiles LONG (like a few of them and am learning some here) before a tiger! But I'll fight just the same because of what I've learned and really do believe in people's rights to make their own choices. The stats prove no regulations don't make ownership of hots, tigers, lions, pitbulls or any animal any more dangerous than everyday occurences/hobbies like driving or skydiving.
Saw there's a hot show in Jefferson I hope to go to some time when my work schedule allows it. I've only ever been to the Columbus reptile show and love it but no hots there. I had NO real education about macaques before owning the first (or second) one but have learned it may be a bit better to- by my choice ; )
