ORLANDO, Fla. -- A Central Florida man bitten by his pet cobra and left unconscious and near death for more than 24 hours was released from an Orlando hospital.

Jack Eugene Hildreth, 50, said he took his attention off his pet cobra for a second and it bit him on the thumb at his home located at 1620 Northwest St. in Bushnell.
Hildreth walked out of Orlando Regional Medical Center Monday night. His right hand was still black-and-blue from last week's bite.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue's venom-response team flew in 20 vials of antivenin to Orlando to treat Hildreth.
Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officials are investigating the incident.

I'm very glad to hear he is recovering and is well. I can't really imagine what it might be like to be bitten by such a toxic critter. To say he's lucky to have his life intact is an understatement.
I just hope this incident doesn't cause those pushing for more bans in FL to push even harder.
