Hi, I just uploaded a picture of a snake that was found in my house in the central valley of Costa Rica and would love help in identifying the type of snake. The picture is in the Forum Storage and is titled "unidentified snake". Thanks!

kspink, please upload the photo again to the "Snakes for Identification" section of the Photo Album.
I just checked, and apparently the photo you uploaded to the site did not come through.
Best Regards John Z

Kspink, your photo came through this time.
It is on the photo album at:

The original photo was quite dark, so I did a bit of editing of it so that folks would be able to see it better:

Ok folks, what kind of Costa Rican snake is this ???
Best Regards John Z

I think its a cat eyed snake, Leptodeira probably annulata. They are very common in most of Costa Rica.

Definitely Leptodeira, unsure of exact species but annulata is probably right. They are harmless unless you are a frog or frog eggs. Very common in CR, often seen at night cruising around frog ponds. For a good CR snake book get Snakes of Costa Rica by Solarzano
