I'm looking to shoot some video of my snakes for friends and family, and possibly putting some videos up on youtube. I'm flexible with my budget, but at the same time I don't want to spend $500 either if I don't have too.
---so what would you guys and gals recommend?

You should consider also what software you will use to make the YT videos. There are many good camcorders from whih you dowload movies in MPEG format, however, MS movie maker hates MPEG files over 5 megs. So you might have to buy sofware (anoter expense) which will convert your movies to WMV format which MS movie maker accepts in big sizes. In any case MS movie maker crashes every 5 minutes.
I love my camcorder that does MPEG movies and I have movie converting software.
