yea there is someone that always makes out best, my name is joe my brother jason just posts on the same name didnt see a reason to make another name. i hope you get it all worked out with the light, i try to make my petco better as far as the reptile section goes and i try to help out the customers a lot.
I was supprised at how many people that come in and own snakes, lizards that really know nothing about them. tons of people coming in to get pinkie mice for their 3 foot ball, and when i say he could eat a rat they get mad and say no his head is way to small, im sure some of you have talked to those people before lol.
if you are in a petco and they are not taking care of the animals correctly there is a number you can call and tell them about it, and they do send in a person to check it out.

Yes ideed, enough IS enough, and after trying really hard to resist doing this for ever so long, my inner English teacher is finally screaming loud enough to get out ....
I know that most people who use these forums are probably more scientific than literature-minded types, but a lack of good writing skills is sorely missing from science these days. (Oh how I long for the eloquence of Raymond Ditmars.... I know that most of his his facts, while on the cutting edge of his day are now woefully outdated, but that man could sure turn a phrase).
Ok, then, here we go:
"There" indicates location, as in "over there" or "you can't get there from here." It can also be used in expressions such as "there, there," "there are" or "so there!"
"Their" indicates possession or belonging to, as in "their snake" or "out of their minds."
"They're" is a contraction of the phrase "they are," as in "They're going to the reptile show" or "they're a bunch of idiots."
There! That's better. Now don't even get me started on this current use of the letter "u" as a substitue for the pronoun "you." It's just sickening...

FSB,
I guess what you are saying is, some people majored in science, with a severe minor for the english language.
Maybe sometime we could get together and diagram sentences for fun. lol
Don't worry bro, I'm not picking on you.

Frederick, thanks for the visit from that inner English teacher, LOL !
I have cut out your suggestions concerning the use of There, Their, and They're, and taped it to my computer monitor, LOL.
Those words have always given me a problem. I wish I had been able to learn more about correct grammar when I had the chance. All that nifty stuff like "Y before I, except after whatever" would be usefull at times.
In my case, in grades 1 to 7, there was no grammar taught as part of English.
When I got to 8 th grade in High School, the English class there was supposed to teach us all of those grammar rules, like contractions, nouns, pronouns, verbs, adverbs, jerands, etc. Taking a sentence and doing a necropsy on it, and rendering it into a gut pile of grammar, if you will !
My progress in that class was hampered because that is when Tourette's Syndrome hit me hard. It was very difficult during 8, 9, and 10 'th grades being the kid sitting in the back of the class with facial tics and making noises that disturbed other students and teachers in the class. The medications they had back then did not help all that much, they were the exact opposite from what is used now days. Back then they used depressants that turned you into a zombie. Not much was known about Tourett's back then. Also, being dyslexic did not help much.
I had the misfortune of having a English Teacher who was a real "B" word that rhymes with "witch."
When I studied and studied to bring up my grades on Spelling Tests in her class, I once made a 100 on a spelling test, and no one in else in the class did. I was so proud of that, until that witch accused me infront of the class of cheating on the test. I did not cheat, I studied and studied for that test. Not good for the ego of a 13 year old kid, though.
That type of reaction from here did little to make me want to learn the grammar crap that she was pushing in her class, and I passed with a D average to grade 9. So that was my opportunity in 5 years of High School to learn grammar, and it is still causing problems for me today. And frankly, I hope that witch teacher is roasting on a spit in some very hot corner of Hades.
I did manage to graduate High School with an SAT Score that was >1580 out of 1600, which is equivalent to >2300 out of 2400 on the new scale. That put me in the 99.9995 Percentile Nationwide. Not too bad for a dyslexic nerdy kid who did not learn Grammar or Spelling in High School, LOL .
The best thing I learned in High School though, was how to use a typewriter. (Keyboard for those who do not know what a typewriter is, LOL).
It is good to know that "there are" (I think I used it right that time, LOL) folks who did do well in Grammar, who know a contraction from a inflection, and who might be able to help proof read if I ever decide to write a book !
Best Regards John Z

Thats funny, I went into a petco just other day for the first time here Greenville s.c. and it was horrible. The ferret cage was full of crap, and mean seriously an inch or so of crap. The store was filthy and the reptiles looked sick as hell. I love to shop at all pet stores or at least look around. so i hope the word gets back to them and they try alot harder to be humaine to the animals that are putting food in their bellys.

I'm glad people are seeing what the chain stores really are! I own a "mom and pop" pet store that I started from scratch 3 years ago and I do everything in my power to sell below the price these big chains are selling them at. It is really difficult, because of there buying power, but I find I am more then competitive on most items. Live stock is another thing altogether. Every week I get someone it who needs me to get there pet back to health, after buying them from petco, etc and getting bad care taking info. Things like; keep a ball python on sand, no heat needed for leopard geckos, only heat and no UV needed for beardies, etc. You think word would get out!?
Besides the lack of animal care knowledge; it really gets me when someone will stop in and say "wow, this is $10 cheaper then the one we got at petco!" They automatically assume that walmart, petco, petsmart, etc are chain stores so they HAVE to be cheaper!
We breed most of our animals or purchase from the true animal experts; indepentant breeders and do what we can to give good care help, but we definitely need people like in this forum to help spread the word to help keep us in business by getting from the small stores and stay away from the chains!
thanks
Sam
oh, the $60 for the 20 gallon isn't really that bad. We sell ours for $50 and there is very little mark up on that.

Now that is hilarious....just last month people here in Hawaii was buzzing about an article in the Honolulu Star Bulletin about PETCO's introduction into our marketplace in 2009. Everyone is excited because the largest pet store we have is Pets Discount, and they're a rip. I guess we'll see for ourselves soon enough.
Right now the best place to buy pet food/supplies here is the Pearl Harbor NEX, if you are military or know someone.
