No banded egyptian cobras are not horribly hard to find in the US> The snouted cobras that have varing patterns (ie N haje from various localities in africa) you are referring to are much more common and imported it looks like. They are similar to copperheads in that typical pattern variences esp based in diff localities are a norm. Bandeds usually run a little more than common egyptians but in my experience it is well worth it. The bandeds i had though larger the the common egyptians seemed to acclimate alot sooner to captivity where as the common egyptians tend to act like slow forest cobras. Glades usually has some true bandeds as well as many other cobra breeders on the net. Good luck

Your profile says you've been keeping venomous since the age of 6?....good thing the dept of child safety and welfare didn't know that. Bandeds are cool but I question that for a minor. Do you have your own place?...do you have an emergency protocol set up with your nearest hospital...who will provide the proper a/v if you get bit?...if you live with your parents, do they have extensive venomous experience? For the other youngsters who may be reading this: don't be in a rush to get a venomous reptile.

Most people I talk to still refer to the banded snouted cobras as banded egyptians. They used to be a considered a subspecies of egyptian cobra, Naja haje annulifera, until the snouted cobras were reclassified as their own species, Naja annulifera. It seems like the name banded egyptian just stuck with them though. As far as true banded egyptian cobras, I don't know. Most I've seen tend to be more tan and brown speckled.

Heard it a lot, yes. It is sort of like 16 year olds getting a driver's license. It makes perfect sense to you then, but twenty years later it's one of the craziest things you can imagine!
