Hey Travis,
After others made contact with him and advised him of illegal sales and interest in illegal animals, he still seemed to not care. As a matter of fact he changed his profile to be very sarcastic and disrespectful to this web site and it's members.
Thinking he would just delete his contact info and become secretive. Well I had already sent a screen shot of it to G&F in California, along with copies of his ads.
Ignorance is no excuse when it comes to the law. I did exactly what I should have done when the request was ignored. I do not know you from Adam, and your screen name is kinda shady too. Decide what side of the fence you want to get on, the legal or illegal side. There is no room for the later here.
This kind of corruption creates problems that legal and responsible venomous owners take the punishment for. I do not feel I was over reacting, it was justified and I will do it again. He is responsible for his own actions. He lied and said he was 19 years old on his profile, without knowing him, we have to assume he is 19 and a adult. What is his parents doing by allowing a 14 year old kid keep such dangerous snakes like rattlesnakes when he apparently knows so little about them and their regulations. It speaks volumes about them.
Sorry you do not agree with me, but hey, I really do not care.
Responsible venomous keepers have to police their own reptile community in order to save it from the riff raff that disrepect it. This kid is not going to wreck things for me so that some new regulation is enacted to take away my personal collection. Think I am harsh? I don't, I am trying to protect my rights as a venomous keeper.
Others on this site have recently asked what the reptile community as a whole is doing about trying to prevent a ban on pythons, well here is a good place to start by keeping that from happening to our venomous rights. You say how dare I? How dare you condone it?

Excellent post Paul!
And he is exactly right. Starting right now, more than even, is the time to step up. There seem to be "casual" keepers, those out for the money, and serious keepers.
This kind of non-sense will be the eventual downfall of our hobby. The one that will suffer the most, are us, serious keepers.
Take Care,
-John Mendrola.

Thanks Paul and everyone who posted. I am not looking to feed the fire here. I myself have learned some thing from all of this and i thank each and every one of you. The snakes that I keep are legal and i have my fishing license that says I am allowed to keep 2 of each native species in California. Yes my name is pretty shady looking, only cause I was cautious when I first came to this site when i created my profile. I was not sure how everything worked on here so I did not give my real name. Anyways I am sorry if i stepped on anyone's toes n stuck my nose where it doe's not belong.
Best of luck to you gents n thank you, Travis

Hm, Weren't we all stupid kids once ?I didn't see the actual ad, but if the law was broken, and the child was contacted by fish and game, then I imagine that his father has had a "talk" with him. all should be good now. There are 25 (26 now) post in this subject. Does the public (who most likely don't visit the site) need to see grown men and woman putting the boot to a 14 year old ? I do agree, he is a doofas, but at 14 I was to. This is a good site. I have always come and read the post and articles for info and entertainment. It seems like every 6 months to a year this happens. The last one was that crazy guy who packs a gun and uses a paint roller to handle hots. To me, Those boot sessions seem like they would sully the reps. of hot keepers as much as stupid kids. Sure I giggled at the profile, but he could have done better IMO. There are a good bunch of guys who have been on here since 2002 or so since I have been reading the site. They had a way of correcting stupidity that was Stern, yet helpful. calling fish and game was stupid. It took officers away from busting poachers and scum bags to do nothing more then verbally spank a child. So if it made you feel better then good. But, if you want to do it better search for some posts by CRO and a few of the other more respected and long time site members and correct the dumb dumb's the way that they do.

I do feel better now that I know there is one less person trying to sell illegal snakes on this website. Absolutely. And age has no limit when it comes to lessons learned.
When people break the law and get caught by Game & Fish or other LE agencies it paints a picture that all keepers do the same. It is a black eye to all legitimate legal keepers. We then suffer for it and pay the consequences.
At the time of the person (whom now I do not know if he is 14 or 46 or whatever)posted his ads he claimed to be 19 yers old on his profile. A grown man.
His profile has not been taken down yet as it still continues to mock and disrespect the serious keepers here on this site.
The scenario I fear is that the headlines could end up as a young man being envenomated by a southern pacific rattlesnake and dies. Kept by a child, and without proper permitting, the story would make national headlines and within days a new regulation on the banning of all venomous snakes in California could ensue.
That is the exact scenario that took place when a child was claimed to have been killed by a burmese python here in Oxford Florida recently. Within days there were press conferences and pressure to enforce a ban on pythons here in Florida, which has joined into a ban on all pythons in the USA.
Wake up and smell the coffee.
The only way to fight this legislature and stop the banning of our hobby is to be responsible and legitimate keepers.
I understand if you do not agree, but I look at it in a different light.

This whole thread bothers me a lot.
I did not see the original profile of sidewinderguy1, and question if the one now up was his doing, or, was the doing of a site administrator, who has been known to post photos and profiles like that.
Did the kid really post that profile ? Does not look like the work of a 14 year old kid to me. Perhaps this person is older ? I agree that something smells really fishy here, however, I think we need a lot more information on the source of the original posts.
I am bothered as to how many older folks were so quick to jump on this kid, and even call game and fish, instead of trying to help him.
But, perhaps, they did try to help him, and he was too thick headed to listen to good advise, and after that, they contacted California game and fish ?
At age 14, people often know little of the reptile laws in the State that they live in. And it is not often easy to find those laws, as most State Game and Fish websites suck.
I am not condoning someone trying to sell or purchase illegal snakes on the classified ads here, but I do question whether the folks here even gave a 14 year old kid a chance to learn ? And I also question if the whole thing was some kind of under cover sting that game and fish set up, that went the wrong way ?
Some folks say they contacted him, but just what did you say to him. Most 14 year old's can be a bit difficult to reach at times. Perhaps he is just too dense to listen to good advise, however, we do have one person here who knows him and says he is a good kid. Perhaps folks here just bitched about what he was doing was illegal, and did not tell him why ?
Anyway, for all of you who keep saying his membership should be deleted from the site here, so far, there is not enough information to do that. Do we really know anything about this kid, or, if he realized the mistakes he was making when he posted ads on the classifieds ?
I, for one, would sure like to have a better picture of what this really was all about.
Best Regards
John Z

John I contacted him in regards to trades he said he was 19.I asked where he lived he stated sandiago I informed that I could not send snakes into cali.I also informed him it was most likely illegal for him to sell what he had.He was still looking for trades.I cut ties at that time. After he placed more adds in the classifieds.Paul started this post and I put my two cents in.Then the 19 year old stated he did not know becouse he was only 14.That was when I became a little mad He had lied.I thought it to be a federal operation at the time myself. If he is a kid he needs guidance I have stated this several times kids need second chances.I am of the opinion it is not a kid at all.Tho I have been wrong quite a bit lately.
