Check out the articles section of this site and find one called "Validity of C.horridus atricaudatus". I for one agree with the article mostly, but others do not. One thing for sure, you've stirred up a hornets nest. lol This has been an argument for a long time, one that will probably go on allot longer too. In my hot room they're listed separately. C.h.horridus and C.h.atricaudatus. Take care, Marty

They sure look like different species primarily from the coloration schemes. I will check out the article you refered me to. Thanks

This debate has been going on for as long as I can remember and I see no end in sight. Personally I think the Southern form is a Sub of the Northern form, but as I always say it varies from opinion to opinion. We all have those little things we cant get past, such as the highly apparent color differences.

Yes I foresee this being the same with the Eastern & Western forms of the Cottonmouth also. As you all know it seems that the two will soon be one in the eyes of the powers that be, with the DNA testing that has accrued. it’s a never ending thing, it will always be the battle of Color or DNA.
