ST. AUGUSTINE, FL -- A venomous snake over seven feet long was discovered in a neighborhood over the weekend.
It was an eastern diamondback rattlesnake that measured 7 feet, 3 inches in length. According to the University of Florida, the record size for that type of snake is 8 feet, so this was definitely a large snake.

"In the meantime, McGaffney isn't quite ready to rest easy. Booth told him rattlesnakes rarely travel alone, preferring to pair up with a member of the opposite sex"
Ummm! Really? I hope Booth was misquoted or misunderstood.

It would have been so easy to tip a trash can on its side, and shoe that snake into it with a broom, then set it back upright, and put the lid on.
Then they could have waited for a proper animal rescue person to arrive, instead of this redneck Booth fellow who just wanted a snake skin belt.
With several hundred licensed Florida venomous snake permit holders, just how difficult would it have been to find someone who would come and get a 7 foot EDB to take it to a Zoo or to release it ?
Did they bother to call a Zoo ? Nope.
Instead, it appears they called the local news crew, and some redneck animal catcher, who is so lame, he is not even licensed to deal with venomous snakes ? What a bunch of nitwhits.
Best Regards

Judging from what I seen of Booth, I believe he is the type to exaggerate the size. You we probably look at a 6 to 6.5 snakes killed and stretched out. It’s courting time, so we are looking at a big male that was on the move looking for females. I am sure he was quite a ways from his home…and of course, as always, they had to throw in something about the children.

It shows up right now on the front page but I'm sure it will need to be searched after today. When searching their site just use this Giant Rattlesnake Found in Neighborhood that should work.

Someone related to the people sent me a photo they took and asked if I thought it was as large as the trapper said it was. I think the snake was a six footer, and quite a shame they could not call one of the many venomous keepers that live in Jacksonville, like you Scott, or Robbie Crabtree.
Scott are you listed with animal controls and the local office of Game & Fish to remove venomous reptiles? It has definately paid off for me here in Ocala, in the past I have got Rhino's, Puff's, and many large Eastern's from nuisance snake calls or confiscations...
It is a shame that the snake was killed, but did anyone really expect anything else from society? Also, how can the trapper capture and posess a venomous snake without a VR License? THAT is illegal...

I thought EDBs were protected in FL... Atleast I'm pretty sure I read that somewhere... Is that not right?
