UPDATE:
On labor day 2004 our daughter was bitten by an URUTU and died from the bite because they only gave her 8 vials of Cro-Fab and made no attempt to get the correct antivenom.
The antivenom was avaiable for Miami-Dade and the Cincinatti Zoo.
She was treated by a doctor at a hospital in Cincinnati that is State Run by OHIO.
We had one of the best high profile attorney's and Dr. Sean Bush was one of our expert witnesses.
You couldn't a better Doctor than Dr Bush because of his expertise in snake bites.
When I found out we were going against a doctor who worked for the State of Ohio I told our lawyer that I didn't think we had a chance, like I told them, you can't fight cityhall.
They thought we had a very good case because of all the experts they worked with said our daughter did not get they Standard of Care that she should have gotten.
If you ever get bitten by a snake, make sure you do not go to a State run hospital.
It was very hard to believe that they wouldn't listen and understand what Dr. Bush said.
After getting facts from experts all over the world and with Dr. Bush on board we proceeded with our case in Jan. 2005.
It took the this long to make a decision.
Our daughter died and she would have been alive today if it wasn't for an arrogant Dr. that wouldn't even call their local expert in the same hospital.
We are numb from this decision.

I'm sorry for your lose.
I have so many questions but I'll ask just a few.
Was the Urutu yours or I guess I should ask, how did she get bit?
2005: Did you win the fight against city hall? (I'm not sure I understand the outcome)
I know your POST says UPDATE so that's probably why I feel a little lost

The snake belonged to our daughter.
The State of Ohio represented the doctor because the hospital he worked at is run by the state.
The State of Ohio ruled in favor of the doctor, that is why you can't fight cityhall or thr State

I remember that when it happend.I did not know your daughter and am very sorry for you loss.I know that it is very hard to fight the establishment and no you can not win.It is cases like your daughters that make me weary of people who decide to own one of these animals most think a bite is a trip to the hospital and they are cured.I am glad you posted so some will know that it is not that simple and people just like them die from snake bite in a modern country.Like I said thank you and I am very sorry for your loss.

Ray, I am sorry for your loss of your daughter.
I know you have been fighting this for a long time now.
You offer good advise, as to avoiding State run hospitals.
And Al offers good advise, as to what is going to happen when the Federal Government takes over health care nationwide. Then, no doctor will ever be liable for a mistake again.
National health care will become as reliable as the US Post Office !
Lets just hope that the doctor who caused the death of your daughter decides to jaywalk in front of a semi- truck or city bus sometime soon.......
Karma has its ways if sorting things out.........

Keep in mind folks, what we do is NOT looked apon as a mainstream hobby. States, cities, counties, towns have bans in place for what we enjoy. It only gets worse with every incident. If you happen to be keeping something illegally as far as any of those jurisdictions are concerned, the ramifications extend far beyond just simple possession.
In the case of bites, not only do you have to deal with the judicial system for harboring a prohibited animal but also a possibilly be denied coverage by your medical insurance for the hospital bill.
The final insult is you effectively nullified your ability (or family member) to ligtigate and win due to the basic fact, you were keeping it illegally.
