If it's illegal to own it where you live, it does not matter if you purchase it from an expo. It is still breaking the law to keep it. Simple math.

You can't keep venomous in Illinois period. Unless your a zoo. They say permit required, but they don't provide permits for private ownership. And like Doug said, rethink your profile pic. Free handling venomous snakes is extremely dangerous, foolish, and frowned opon by the venomous community in general. Nothing good comes from it.It usually ends up with bites and bad publicity that we don't need, and sets a bad example to youngsters that visit this site. Take care, Marty

Hold on! I agree the photo sends the wrong message, but I disagree with this mob-mentality telling this guy what he must and must not do. This is America, last time I checked.

I wrote it for two reasons Randal. True, it's not my place to instruct what someone can or cannot do. But....
Free handling is in fact a dangerous and foolhardy thing to do, let alone post a picture of it.
Secondly...it appears the timber is being handled in the wild. So, if he is in fact from Illinois then he is not only posting a pic in bad taste, but posting a pic of him breaking the law. The species in question is protected in IL, thus capturing, harassing etc. is strictly forbidden by the State DNR.
Both of these combined is why I said he should rethink the picture. It's a good way to have DNR knocking on your door with a summons in their hand.

I understand your post Doug, and it makes sense.
However, the guy already stated that he lives in state that does not allow venomous, yet he wanted to go about purchasing one anyway.
He deserves to have the DNR knocking on his door.
As far as the photo, it's his choice. There have been worst photo's and YouTube video's posted on this site and some by the members of this site, that show careless venomous handling/techiques.
We can agree to disagree, but I still love ya! LOL!

Aww C'mon Randal! You know this forum is the best place to duel it out even if we are in agreement!!!
Next thing you know you'll be putting down my puff adder petting zoo venture.
